Tasty Tuesday Crosstown Doughnuts Pt. 2
Some of you may remember, way back in December I tried Crosstown Doughnuts for the first time and was sadly disappointed, I found them to be dry and just not that nice.
So a few weeks ago I was in Soho and walked past Crosstown Doughnuts the shop, last time I got my doughnuts from their stall at Kings Cross.
I decided to give them another try as last time, I did buy them just before the stall was about to close and the selection was poor so I wanted to give them a fair try.
As last time I felt the dough was dry and this could be down to the fact that they had been out all day in the cold air which will dry food out.
This time around I had the full selection to choose from.
I decided to go for three doughnuts which would give me a good idea of the flavours and texture of the doughnut.
I decided on Peanut Butter Berry, Crème Brûlée & Glazed Cinnamon Scroll as they are some of my favourite flavours.
Peanut Butter Berry
“An unfilled square sourdough. Topped with a thick indulgent peanut butter glaze and homemade, tangy blackcurrant compote with a sprinkling of toasted peanuts.”
The main reason I choice this doughnut is I make a cupcake which is pretty similar and love the flavour combination.
The Sourdough was soooooooo much better than last time, last time it was hard this time it was so soft but with a chewiness to it, which I really liked. The peanut butter was sweet & nutty, and the berry compote was a little shape which blended perfectly with the peanut butter, this was an almost perfect doughnut if it wasn’t for the fact there was a little too much compote for my liking. I kind of wish there was more peanut butter.
“Inside you’ll find a rich, vanilla custard all wrapped up in a melt in your mouth Crosstown sourdough, with a decadent crisp, caramelised caster sugar.”
I love custard so this for me was a no-brainer.
I love the fact that it was hard on the outside with soft sourdough on the middle but I was sadly disappointed by the custard, it had a mild custard taste but was sadly lacking for me, and I really did not enjoy it as the custard wasn’t very custardy.
Glazed Cinnamon Scroll
Cinnamon sugar glazed roll doughnut. This light and airy doughnut are smothered with cinnamon sugar throughout and topped off with Tongan vanilla bean glaze.
I love Cinnamon and I love this Scroll it is my favourite.
This glazed cinnamon scroll took me to food heaven, I could easy become addicted to these, it was light and fluffy it had the perfect amount of cinnamon and the vanilla glaze just set it off.
My first try of Cross doughnuts was not good, but I have to say this time I loved their doughnuts and will definitely be trying out more of their flavours, I’m in love with the cinnamon scroll.
